Thinking about getting a new job, maybe even a completely different career path. Maybe it's unprofessional of me to say, but I hate my job. The way I see it, getting a vaccine and not getting a vaccine each pose risks... sometimes the risks appear significant and sometimes they do not..for both the individual and/or the community. To me, some vaccines make a whole lot of sense to get, and some less so. I think with the introduction of the internet and new ways to disseminate information there is a great struggle for control of information. And unfortunately the truth... and asking questions... as well as one's freedoms...can get in the way of that struggle. I think we are at a point where we need to be asking questions about many things...as well as recognize that it's okay to be asking those questions.. RE: Where Are The Lurkers? - April Maccabees - 12-21-2024 I think that vaccines along with good nutrition, exercise, sanitation, and advances in medicine all contributed to decreased incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases in the Western world. For hepatitis B, for example, the most significant risk to the newborn is transmission by mom with untreated hepatitis B during labor and delivery. It is unlikely that the newborn would be engaged in other high risk behaviors (sex and needle sharing) for hepatitis B. However, according to the CDC, only 0.5% of pregnancies in the US were to moms who were positive for hepatitis B. So, it seems risk of baby contracting hepatitis B at birth is very low, yet the three dose series for the hepatitis B vaccine start as soon as birth. Even if mom had hepatitis B, there are medications to decrease the transmission risk to baby. If baby does get infected, there is hepatitis B treatment. So, I am questioning the universality of hepatitis B vaccine to all babies, even those with no risk. In this case, the non-members viewing this site are generally going to be safe people. There is actually another site called Catholic Hangout but is is not a forum, just articles and book and movie reviews. When I google "Catholic Forums," this site does not come up, at least on the first three pages. Thank you, Armand, for this topic. Speaking only for myself, I've been rather down-in-the-dumps over the past several months and didn't find anything of any interest, anywhere, not just here on CH, but even in real life. And trying to garner a little joy and happiness (for which I pray everyday), I've popped into the threads regarding word association, just because. There have been a number of topics I've wanted to begin here, but it's my understanding that we're not to discuss politics, which plays a significant role in my life. So I lurk here on CH, but not even all that much. I'm finding the topics to be a bit, well, uhmmm, can't put a descriptive word to it, hoping and praying for some inspiration and that I'll get a burst of a desire to chime in. Going back to the piano or my sewing room to work on the current project. I can certainly relate to your comment, April ... just trying to survive, taking things one day at a time. Hope you can figure out what career path you wish to take. For me, I've been so grateful to God, every evening in my night prayers, thanking God for the job and my boss ... we never did have to shut down back in March of 2020, even though we are a small business -- just he and I -- I've thought that if it were any smaller, I wouldn't be there. It's a part time job, and I could certainly use more hours, and some days it's so quiet in the office (no one with whom to interact ... argh! ![]() Anyway, my suggestion (for what it's worth), if you're not really happy at your job, and we spend most of our waking hours earning a living, we ought to be doing something that we enjoy. I hope you can find something that you'll not only enjoy, but excel in ... Saint Joseph is the Patron Saint of workers, so maybe a novena to him would help. I know that he has helped me, countless times throughout my work life. So very sorry for your loss, James. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Vaccines ... I'm not a big fan, especially the ones pushed over the past four-plus years. Just, no! Kept hearing about all kinds of fatalities with people who were fairly healthy prior to taking the vaccine. I say it was criminal, what was being pushed out there by dr. fauci. May God have mercy on his soul when it comes time. Again, James, my deepest sympathies on the loss of your friend, Clare. I would add, though, that when "they" were pushing hard and fast with the vaccine back in 2020, or anything else, my instincts kicked in and told me, "just wait, M.A., there's no real hurry ... consider the source ... just wait"!!! And while I was waiting, I kept hearing about all kinds of dastardly things associated with that vaccine (we all know to which I am alluding). Yes, I did open it for anyone to view because we were not attracting any new members and we didn't even show on a Google search. I was hoping by opening it for viewing, we would get more members to stop by and register. If most here would prefer a closed forum like we started out, I'm OK with changing back. Just that, if someone wants to see what's going on here, they'll find a way. We do try to screen new members, but anyone can fake an ID to get in. After we opened, I had invited others to join, but back then they couldn't see what we were about, and so they just moved on. Let me know if you all prefer a closed forum and I'll consider changing back.... I think most people who find this forum are looking for things Catholic and would tend to agree with most of the opinions expressed here. If the forum is closed, we will be writing for a smaller audience. There would also be fewer people listening to my music posts. But I can understand why some would want their anonymity and confidentiality protected. So I can see reasons for either choice and do not have strong feelings one way or the other. RE: Where Are The Lurkers? - enchantmentadm - 12-23-2024 Since this apparently is not a forbidden topic here, I will give you my two cents worth. I went along with this for the first three shots, the first two basic shots and the first booster. It may have been necessary at the time for the world to go back to normal, even if the benefit of the shots was somewhat illusory. I know some fully vaccinated people who came down with very severe cases of COVID. Maybe they would have been worse without the shots. Who knows? I have not had a shot in about three years and see no reason to now. COVID is pretty much endemic in the population at this point. Coming down with COVID is hardly a death sentence now and is not much worse than a cold for many people. Consequently, in my opinion, the risk of continuously taking these shots is greater than the risk of getting COVID for most people. My approach in general is to focus on maintaining a healthy immune system. There is evidence that reliance on vaccines actually weakens one's immune system in the long run. I know people who continue to get regular booster. This is their choice. There should be no judgment one way or the other. RE: Where Are The Lurkers? - Tradcat - 01-27-2025 I am new to this whole situation and had a great laugh at the name of Lurkers. I have never heard of that before, but it sounds pretty funny. I’m guessing that most people are curious, read the posting but don’t have anything substantial to say….. I will try not to be a lurker ? For sure there were a lot of people who had adverse reactions. Obtaining an exemption is a right that should be respected for everyone. I know it’s a controversial issue for some people, but it should not be. One thing that has happened is a big reduction in vaccinations overall now and I guess time will tell how things continue to evolve. Hi Dave, I agree with you about it being one of the many coronaviruses out there now. Nothing puts invisible force fields around us (not magical smoothies or excessive doses of vitamin D or vaccines). Understanding how the immune system works is just being responsible, being empathetic towards those who are still afraid, but we should be respectful of others and move forward. The flu is consistently bad for certain populations every year, coronaviruses do not mutate to be more lethal with time but transmission gets increased why lethality goes down (they don’t want to kill their host)…. Most people it’s a common cold but when it’s combined with flu or pneumonia then of course it’s going to be worse…. Even the flu shot is the best guess. Removing all processed foods from the diet, getting consistent regular exercise is very important.Depending on where you live get your vit d checked and try to keep your level around 50 ( unless you have a condition your doctor says you should not of course). |
