real winter weather - susanb - 02-03-2025
I actually love driving in snow because I was a skier
and lived in a mountainous cold place for awhile....
these days......although I made it to Mass yesterday
...there are so many accidents that I drive only
when essential......
oops......most of you live in summer climates

We get some snow here in Albuquerque, New Mexico but not a lot. Maybe we get 10 inches per winter and lately we have not even been getting that. Of course, there is more in the mountains. Consequently, most people here don't know how to drive in it. So the best thing to do here is to stay home when it snows, not because I don't trust my own driving but because I don't trust others'.

cancelled today......very little traffic on my road behind me and many poor drivers

That is interesting Armand! I did not know Albuquerque can get snow. This year in January, my oldest brother in in Panama City, Florida got heavy snow, but Tennessee hardly received snow that week.
A lot of southerners cannot drive in the snow. I remember some of my neighbors driving up on a icy hill last year.

About fifty years ago I saw snow in Arizona, along I-10. It was beautiful and felt great. I have never seen such a pure blue sky before or since.

We're 5,000 to 6,000 feet above sea level, about the same as Denver, but further south. Points north of us, such as Santa Fe and Taos, get more snow. Even Las Cruces, NM and El Paso, TX, about 200 miles or so south, get a little snow but less than we do.

wow.......that's high......my geography is very rusty
-6C this am.........brrrrrr......don't mind the snow but the ice is scary

It's winter in central Ohio ... no big deal.
Most of the time, we get snow and then gorgeous sunshine, or rain, or sleet ... I just roll with it.

That is interesting you have seedlings Susan. What do you like to grow in your greenhouse?

I had a backyard untill april last year and I do miss that being in a condo now
this year I will fill my balcony with edibles the their companion flowers
-greenery like kale, cabbages etc
flowers....[mostly marigolds]
on my windowsills I am cultivating all those air-cleaning houseplants to put them everwhere

Here it is April 19, Holy Saturday, and we are getting snow here in Albuquerque. This is after getting almost no snow all winter and having days in the past week or so in the mid-80s. We are more likely to get a white Easter than a white Christmas, although the snow is not sticking to the ground.

There are plenty of those also but not the big saguaro cacti like they have in Arizona. The central and northern parts of the state do get some snow because of the high altitude. We are at 5,000 to 6,000 feet. Large accumulations of snow are rare here and the snow generally melts by the end of the day because of the high evaporation rate. Santa Fe is 7,000 feet above sea level and gets more snow than we do. The southern part of the state gets little or no snow.

okay......I am grateful for a rainy change
my condo is 14C in the am which is refreshing
and often 28C in the pm even without much sun....
babysitting today at their house so will see what I come home to.....
not summer yet but very summer-like lately
