Gender reassignment - English Rose - 11-02-2025
I am seeing my Godson today who has decided he would like to become a woman and has changed his name by Deed Poll to a woman's name. The next step is hormone therapy and then surgery.
I would be interested to hear your views on the trans issue and particularly Catholic teaching on it.
I am all at sea about it.

one of my deaf son's caregivers became a man......
it upset me but we are still friendly but a lot less....
he is still loved by God but not the lifestyle......imho

There is nothing good in this nonsense. A man does not transform into a woman.
He becomes a castrated and otherwise mutilated man further encouraged in his delusions.

and not in view
my old parish had a few individuals whom i prayed and for accepted
as God's children........one individual I knew since elementary age.

You're welcome Sheena! I have been reading up on TOB for many years. The gender reassignment stuff is complex. It is based on a combination of Descartes - I think therefore I am - and an old heresy called Gnosticism (knowledge). St. Ireanus defeated the Gnosticism heresy: https://www.nationalshrine.org/blog/the-man-who-defeated-gnosticism-st-irenaeus/.
Those books will explain more on that matter

I particularly dislike the lack of Freedom of Speech over the trans issue. Academics here have lost their jobs for being gender critical. If something is good, surely it can't be threatened by a debate, discussion or point of view.
I had no idea gender reassignment was based on a combination of Descartes and Gnosticism. Thanks Joshua. One of my many worries for my Godson is that he will reassign his gender, then the tide will turn, it will cease to be popular and he will be left high and dry.

So sorry to hear about this, Sheena.
The Church's teaching is that "God made them, male and female" ... directly from Genesis.
It's also my understanding that much of the European research has turned around their thinking, they are against gender reassignment.
May God help him, and I'll keep both of you, and his family in my prayers.

Seeing people over Christmas has revealed 4 sets of friends who have sons who would like to become or dress like women. Three out of 4 of the young men have a diagnosis of autism. I don't know about the 4th man. I wonder whether it's the autism that needs to be listened to and addressed rather than supporting people with gender reassignment. The latter seems a drastic and irreversible option.
I wonder who is driving this. Do they have children who wish to gender reassign? I don't see how gender reassignment is compatible with evolutionary theory. It's an evolutionary dead end, as Sir William says, the surgery and hormones make you sterile.
It would make me think twice about having children. A needless complication when you can have another type of life.

I can certainly relate...........my autistic son was influenced greatly in his teen years.....
when he was very violent towards me the workers at a group home,
definitely encouraged cross dressing and more.......even when going to school which
was horrific.........thankfully we achieved private finding in 2009
and all reversed easily........especially when he started learning a realistic normal life
