I know this is a relatively old thread but I did not see it until now. Arranged marriages are still the norm in many cultures. I suppose Adam and Eve had an advantage if God arranged the marriage. I am third-generation Italian-American. My godparents (my aunt, dad's sister, and uncle) were in an arranged marriage. They were together until separated by death. They say the divorce rate is lower in arranged marriages. With the divorce rate around 50 percent and so many people having trouble finding marriage partners in the first place, it is hard to say that our current dating culture is working.

A TV show called "Married At First Sight" or "Matched, Married, Meet" has been arranging marriages for several years. However, I would not use this is a model for arranged marriages. Their success rate is anywhere between 10 to 20 percent, which is significantly worse than the national average. I question the ethics of this show. Having watched the show on and off, it appears to me that they match couples based on what will boost their ratings, i.e., relationships that create drama, rather than true compatibility.

What alternatives to our current dating culture do you see?

At my age……. Really have no further comment.    Have recently watched child brides in documentaries
(As young as 13) with hugely disastrous results

While at work I had several patients who had arranged marriages that were successful…
