The Shroud has been reexamined using more current technology than in 1988, where they used carbon dating and said it most likely dated back to 1350. This time they say that it is just about 2000 years old putting it right about the time of the resurrection. They say that the technique is experimental, but this should open the door for further testing. Wouldn't that be something if they found the DNA of Christ on it after all these years?

My understanding is that the later measurement was taken on a later, patched in fabric which are a repair of missing material lost, I think, to fire damage. It is not the high quality, herringbone weave of the original intact shroud. The Fox article was behind a paywall, but there is another summary here.

When I first became a Catholic I was amazed by this artifact. When I attempted my first staions of the cross... There it all was. Recorded in the shroud.
I found the best stuff poking around on YouTube.

Found this statement, further confirming its authenticity
Quote: Holy shroud: A blood analysis of the Shroud of Turin might back the biblical story of Jesus' crucifixion. An engineer used modern tech on samples from the 1970s and found signs of organ failure, trauma, disease and radiation. The blood contained earthen materials typically found in Jerusalem. Isn’t this amazing?!

You're welcome. Think about it, is there any other object that we know of that exists today that actually touched the body of Christ? We have the last supper chalice, or Holy Grail, but no one knows where it is if it still exists, but the shroud of Turin is real and is being traced to the time of Jesus.

According to tradition, the cross itself. Broken up into many fragments in many reliquaries. I have never heard of any testing, and with so many fragments I doubt all are consistent.
I am sufficiently content with the Saxon poem "The Dream of the Rood."

My spine tingles at the thought that I might be looking at the actual image of Christ. As an erstwhile genomics scientist, the thought of sequencing his DNA is astounding.
I am also being careful. Some people I know lost their faith when the shroud was thought to be a mediaeval fake in the '80s. My faith will stand regardless of whether the Turin shroud depicts Christ or not and will not be dependent on it.

Yea, I don't see why someone's faith would even be shaken if it turns out to not be from 2000 years ago. All it would mean is that it isn't The Shroud.
