I have a 2009 Honda Fit. Last week my car would not start. Called road service and got a battery jump and then took it to my local mechanic to find out what happened. The car battery is only a year old. I was told that the overhead light had been left on. Not sure how that happened but I was told the car is fine.
But now my key fob isn't working. I can start the car after I manually open the door, but it's a bother! Does it also need a new battery? Where do I take it to have the battery replaced?
Hi Debbie, good to see you. Two things, if you leave one door slightly ajar, the overhead light will stay on in many vehicles. That could be the culprit.
I have a 2020 Honda Ridgeline, but in all cases on all makes, the battery can be changed by the owner. It looks like yours might take a 1016 coin battery which you can buy at Walmart or any hardware store. If you don't have the owner's manual to tell you how to change it, you can go to one of several YouTube videos like this one: how to change a 2009 Honda key fob battery If you don't want to do that, some stores that only sell batteries will do it for you. Worse choice would be a Honda dealer but that will cost a lot more. Good luck.
