How to overcome that without jeopardizing your position is difficult at best. They may eventually catch on after a while... I wish you the best in your new position and with dealing with these twisted-minded people.
It is very difficult in the workplace to tell co-workers just how you feel about things like this. It sets up a toxic environment where you are now on the outside and possibly wrongfully attacked. I understand that you don't have to accept their way of life, but out and out rejecting or reporting them is extremely difficult. When we had our business, my wife ran the assembly area and she would tell me how frequently some of the girls would openly discuss their prancing around after hours. One time we hired a very attractive woman, and she joined us for our regular Friday after work beer get-together. I felt extremely uncomfortable, as did some of the other men, just being around her the way she talked about herself and her husband. She left with one of our techs, neither lasted long as employees, it was hard to keep them on after the way they acted. They may have been good in the bedroom, but not in the assembly room. These things happened over 30 years ago, well into the "sexual revolution". Our job was to make sure they did what they were hired to do, and it was uneasy for us to engage in their after-hour activities.
I just mentioned elsewhere about the cartoons the kids see today. They talk about the older cartoons being violent, yet today's junk are full of violence, sex and fantasy far beyond the Bugs Bunny and roadrunner cartoons. I'm appalled at what kids are being taught in schools today, they can graduate without knowing how to add or fill out a job application, yet they are well educated on transvestites, homosexuality and how to intimately please their sexual partner. Things that are well beyond the scope of what our schools are suppose to be teaching. I remember when you were a teenager before your parents told you the "facts of life". You knew a lot of that already, but they didn't know that. Now the bar for kids is so low they have no fear of tripping, yet those who are morally straight are shunned for their beliefs.
Don, it has not taken long to be in absolute shock when it comes to what the kids themselves are saying. They are learning it somewhere! This same teacher with the "meat tray" spews very personal medical (female issues) at staff breakfast so I think I am in for a long haul. The other two teachers in my room are... drum roll... married to each other! So a very unstable management situation as one is the head.
Smashes head on desk.
I just have to rise above.
Friday I baked a tiny bundt cake for the woman I DO find to be decent. She tends to isolate ... the other day she left me banana bread when I forgot my lunch (I was catching ducks at 7am from the hurricane).
Anyway I baked a tiny bundt with blueberries and blue pea butterfly vine edible flowers, put it in a white box with tissues and covered it with flowers. Thus... as time goes on they may recognize a difference in behavior from S*** Emoji cake and a little fancier.
The world has gone insane!

Every once in a while I stumble across something while shopping online and find myself thinking. "I can't believer they sell this here!". Just in the past couple of days I saw two commercials on TV and thought "Is there no decency left? Did they just advertise that on tv?" So I guess to some it all seems perfectly normal. Here we are in 2024. How different things were even just 20 - 25 years ago.
I do still think there are lots of people who see what's wrong with such things. It sounds like you're having a good experience working with the kids, and I would agree with you that makes it worth doing.
Yes, The kids are the reason I am there. I dont know why I keep expecting things to be different though. Its been 20 or more years in Florida and I havent met the nice people yet. I kinda thought I did but it just hits all new lows all the time. I would think SCHOOL would be safe?
I have never been one for bathroom like humor so I just dont get it? People are certainly entertained however! Wow wow wow....
I hope there is an apocalypse that sends kids searching for better than their parents behaved some days. Maybe this stuff will go the way of the beanie baby and disappear.
