That child is trouble to this day.
The world has changed so. Last night I was to be a chaperone for a dance however it was cancelled after we had a school lock down. Not a drill but an actual threat of some kind. When did the school house get so complicated? Pray pray pray
That's such a pity how our kids are educated right now. I never saw a uniformed officer in any school I went to, we never would have know what "lock down" meant. During the war, we used to have air raid drills and always fire drills. I see how kids are dressed going to school today. We had discipline, girls wore dresses or skirts, boys had shirts and ties. Violate that rule and you either went home and changed or they would provide you with something you didn't want to wear all day. If a boy didn't have a tie on, they would give him one made of crepe paper. Corporal punishment did not get the teacher arrested and even just chewing gum in class had its punishment. Sass the teacher and it was off the the principal's office. Cell phones in class??? Come on, you were lucky if your folks could afford a dial phone at home. We had a "party line" that we shared with other families. Not very private and not convenient if you wanted to make a call and another family was using the line. But we managed to get through it all regardless, and I think we were better adults because of this discipline.
And yes, school dances were chaperoned and every kid dressed appropriately.
